Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “Mancini - Tommasi” of Cosenza and the Dipartimento di AGRARIA of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria organize a telematic seminar on "The fruit growing of the future" starting at 10.00 on Friday 29 May. In recent years, the pressing need to identify increasingly sustainable fruit models has led fruit growers to turn more and more to technology. New technologies allow, in fact, to practice a new model of fruit, able at the same time to meet the needs of the plants and be environmentally friendly. This cultivation model, commonly defined as precision fruit growing, is based on the determination and interpretation of the spatio-temporal variability of pedo-environmental, vegetational and production parameters. The acquisition of this information allows fruit growers to make production forecasts both as regards the quantitative and qualitative aspects, as well as to verify the goodness of the cultivation techniques adopted, suggesting any changes to be made in the agronomic management of the orchard. The complete automation of the functional parameters in orchard detection also makes it possible to decouple these tasks from the availability of personnel, which can be useful in case of cultivation of marginal areas, or for the methodical and accurate measurement of numerous functional parameters. To practice precision fruit growing, in addition to adequate tools, specific knowledge from the operators is required. To train these professional figures, it is essential to start a modular path that starts from the Higher Education Institutions and ends at the University. It is precisely in this perspective of synergistic collaboration that the Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “Mancini - Tommasi” of Cosenza and the Dipartimento di AGRARIA of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria organized this seminar which aims to illustrate young people students the basics of precision fruit growing.
